The Forest Opera (Opera Leśna) in Sopot is one of the best-known open-air stages in Poland. For more than a hundred years, this amphitheatre hidden among the trees above the centre of the resort has attracted music lovers, fans of popular music and tourists who want to see the legendary festival venue. Here is what is worth knowing before your visit.

A brief history of the Forest Opera
The first performance took place here in 1909. In the interwar period, the amphitheatre was famous for its productions of Richard Wagner’s operas and earned the nickname “the Bayreuth of the North”. After the war, the stage became the home of the International Song Festival, which put Sopot permanently on Europe’s musical map.
At the beginning of the 21st century, the venue underwent a thorough modernisation. The auditorium was covered with a modern roof, so concerts can now take place whatever the weather. Today the Forest Opera seats several thousand spectators and serves as a stage for concerts, festivals and open-air shows.
What happens at the Forest Opera?
Most events take place from late spring to the end of summer. The programme includes concerts by Polish and international stars, music festivals, television shows and performances. The line-up changes every season, so please check current dates and tickets on the official Forest Opera website and on ticketing sites.
Outside the concert season, the amphitheatre is a quiet spot on the map of forest walks – it is worth visiting the area while hiking the trails of the Tricity Landscape Park.
How to get to the Forest Opera?
The Forest Opera is located in the wooded part of Sopot, west of the centre. From the area around Monciak (Monte Cassino Street), you can walk there by heading towards the hills – part of the way is uphill, so allow extra time. On the day of big concerts, it is best to leave the car behind: parking in the area is very limited, and organisers often introduce traffic changes.
- On foot – the simplest option for guests staying in the centre.
- By taxi – convenient if you are wearing evening attire or do not want to walk uphill. After a big concert the traffic is heavy, so walking back can be quicker.
- By car – if you are coming from far away, leave your car in the hotel garage and walk to the concert.
Practical tips before a concert
- Buy tickets in advance – seats for popular events sell out quickly. Use official sales channels only.
- Bring a warm layer – although the auditorium is roofed, it gets chilly in the forest in the evening, even in summer.
- Arrive early – ticket checks at big concerts can take a while.
- Check the event rules – organisers specify which bags and items you may bring in.
- Book your accommodation in good time – during festivals, hotels in Sopot fill up quickly.
