The Gdańsk Christmas Market is one of the most important festive events in Poland – in the European Best Christmas Markets competition, it took first place in Europe. More and more people combine a visit to the market with a weekend by the sea. We suggest how to plan such a trip and why it is worth staying in Sopot.
Gdańsk Christmas Market 2026 – key information
- Dates: from 20 November (Friday) to 23 December 2026 (Wednesday).
- Location: Targ Węglowy (Coal Market) in the centre of Gdańsk, plus additional zones around the Royal Route.
- Admission: free.
- Opening hours: in 2025, the stalls were open from midday until the evening, and longer on Fridays and Saturdays. Please check the current hours for 2026 on the official market website before you travel.
At the market you will find stalls with handicrafts and Christmas decorations, food zones with cuisines from around the world, carousels for children and festive illuminations in the Old Town.
Why stay in Sopot?

- Peace after sightseeing – after the busy market, you return to an intimate resort rather than a crowded city centre.
- The sea included – a morning walk on the beach and the pier, and the festive lights of Gdańsk in the evening.
- Relaxation on site – Bayjonn Hotel guests have free use of the sauna, which is perfect after an evening out in the frost.
A plan for a festive weekend in the Tricity
Friday – arrival in Sopot
Check in at the hotel (from 15:00) and take an evening stroll along Monciak (Monte Cassino Street). For dinner, we recommend the Thai Thai restaurant, which is open until 22:30 on Fridays and Saturdays.
Saturday – the market in Gdańsk
After breakfast (7:00–10:30), take the SKM to Gdańsk. Explore the Old Town first, and visit the market after dark, when the illuminations are at their most impressive. In the evening, return to Sopot and warm up in the sauna.
Sunday – the sea and the journey home
Spend the morning by the sea: the beach, the pier and a coffee in one of the cafés in the centre. Check-out is by 11:00 – if you would like to stay longer, ask reception about luggage storage. You will find more ideas in our article A Weekend in Sopot.
When to visit the market?
The market is busiest at weekends in December. If you prefer a calmer visit, choose one of the first weekends (21–22 or 28–29 November) or come on a weekday. A midweek stay is also a good idea for those who want to combine the market with a few days of rest – you can check current promotions in our special offers.

- A payment card and some cash will come in handy at the market.
- If you are coming by car, book a space in the paid hotel garage in advance and leave your car in Sopot.
